Creating a traditional Irish Coffee is both an art and a culinary delight, blending the rich warmth of coffee and whiskey with the smooth sweetness of sugar and cream.
Our favorite is served at The Buena Vista, in San Francisco, which is known for their classic Irish Coffees. There's a brief blurb about them below if you're interested!
Here’s a detailed recipe to make two servings of traditional Irish Coffee:
Coffee: 2 cups of hot, strong brewed coffee. A rich, dark roast is preferable for its robust flavor.
Irish Whiskey: 90ml (3 oz), preferably a smooth, aged variety that complements the coffee without overwhelming it.
Brown Sugar: 2 tablespoons, to add a deep, molasses sweetness that pairs well with the whiskey.
Heavy Cream: 120ml (4 oz), lightly whipped to a pourable consistency. The cream should be cold and fresh.
Nutmeg, green and white sprinkles, green cocktail sugar, or Chocolate dust/shavings (optional): for garnish. To add a little more St. Patrick's Day fun, you can make a stencil cutout of a clover to dust the top of the cream topping with your powder or sprinkle garnish (easy to do with a Cricut!)
Two heat-resistant glasses or Irish Coffee mugs
Two spoons
Mixing bowl (for the cream)

INSTRUCTIONS
Prep the Glasses: Warm the glasses by filling them with hot water; let sit for about a minute, then empty. This step prevents the glass from cracking when filled with hot coffee and whiskey.
Brew the Coffee: Prepare 2 cups of strong coffee. The coffee should be made just before assembling the drink to ensure it's hot and fresh.
Whip the Cream: Pour the heavy cream into a mixing bowl. Whip it lightly until it's still pourable but slightly thickened. You’re not looking for stiff peaks here, just a creamy texture that will float on top of your coffee.
Assemble the Irish Coffee:
Add Sugar: Spoon 1 tablespoon of brown sugar into each pre-warmed glass.
Add Coffee: Pour hot coffee into each glass, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Add Whiskey: Pour 45ml (1.5 oz) of Irish whiskey into each glass. Stir gently to combine with the coffee and sugar mixture.
Add Cream: Hold a spoon upside down over the top of the glass, and gently pour the whipped cream over the back of the spoon. This technique helps the cream to float on top of the coffee rather than mixing in. Aim for a layer of cream that’s about half an inch thick.
Garnish (Optional): Sprinkle a little grated nutmeg, sprinkles or chocolate shavings over the cream for an extra touch of flavor and decoration.
Serving: Serve the Irish Coffee immediately. It’s traditionally enjoyed by sipping the hot coffee through the cool layer of cream.

Coffee Choice: The quality of the coffee is crucial. Use a brew that’s strong and flavorful enough to stand up to the whiskey.
Whiskey Selection: Choose a whiskey you enjoy on its own. The smoother and more nuanced the whiskey, the better the overall flavor of your Irish Coffee.
Cream Consistency: The cream should be just whipped enough to be pourable but still thick enough to float. Over-whipped cream will not pour smoothly.
Enjoy the warmth and comfort of this traditional Irish treat, perfect for chilly evenings or as a special dessert.

However, it was in 1952 that the cafe etched its name into the annals of San Francisco's culinary history. The owner, in collaboration with travel writer Stanton Delaplane, endeavored to replicate the Irish Coffee served at Shannon Airport in Ireland. After much experimentation, they perfected the recipe, and thus, the famed Buena Vista Irish Coffee was born. This delightful concoction of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and cream has since become synonymous with The Buena Vista, drawing visitors from around the globe.
Prime Location

Crafting an Irish Mule is a delightful journey into the world of cocktails, combining the zesty freshness of lime, the spicy kick of ginger beer, and the smooth richness of Irish whiskey. This variation of the classic Moscow Mule replaces vodka with Irish whiskey for a deeper flavor profile.
Here’s how to make two servings of an Irish Mule:
Irish Whiskey: 90ml (3 oz), choose a smooth variety that mixes well. (We typically use Jameson)
Ginger Beer: 240ml (8 oz), for that essential spicy-sweet fizz.
Lime: 1 large lime, freshly squeezed to yield about 30ml (2 tablespoons) of juice, plus extra wedges for garnish.
Ice: Cubed or crushed, enough to fill two mugs.
Mint Sprigs (optional): for garnish, adds a fresh aroma and visual appeal.
Two copper mugs or highball glasses (copper mugs are traditional and help keep the drink cold).
Cocktail stirrer or spoon
Citrus juicer (optional, but helpful for extracting lime juice).

INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the Glasses: Fill two copper mugs or highball glasses with ice. The ice helps keep the drink chilled and also dilutes the cocktail slightly, balancing the flavors.
Squeeze the Lime: Cut the lime in half and squeeze to get about 30ml (2 tablespoons) of fresh lime juice. Divide the juice between the two glasses.
Add the Whiskey: Pour 45ml (1.5 oz) of Irish whiskey into each glass. The whiskey’s warmth and complexity are the soul of the Irish Mule.
Top with Ginger Beer: Slowly pour about 120ml (4 oz) of ginger beer into each glass, over the back of a spoon if preferred to reduce fizz. The ginger beer adds a refreshing effervescence and a sharp, spicy edge.
Stir Gently: Use a cocktail stirrer or a long spoon to gently mix the ingredients in the glass. It’s important not to stir too vigorously to maintain the carbonation of the ginger beer.
Garnish: Add a wedge of lime on the rim of each glass or drop it into the drink. If using, place a sprig of mint for garnish. The lime and mint will provide an aromatic freshness with each sip.
Serving: Serve immediately, encouraging guests to stir their drink gently before enjoying, to blend the lime juice at the bottom with the ginger beer and whiskey.

Ginger Beer Selection: Choose a quality ginger beer that balances sweetness and spiciness. The ginger flavor should be pronounced but not overwhelming.
Whiskey Choice: A smooth, aged Irish whiskey works best in this cocktail, providing a mellow backdrop to the sharpness of the lime and ginger beer.
Adjust to Taste: If you prefer a sweeter drink, you can add a dash of simple syrup. For a tangier mule, add more lime juice.
This Irish Mule recipe is perfect for social gatherings or a relaxing evening at home, offering a refreshing twist on a classic cocktail that’s both invigorating and deeply satisfying.

Creating a Shamrock Shake Martini is like blending the festive spirit of St. Patrick's Day with the elegance of a classic cocktail. This indulgent concoction combines the creamy, minty flavors of a traditional Shamrock Shake with the sophistication of a martini, resulting in a delightful dessert cocktail perfect for two.
Here's how to craft this delightful treat:
Vanilla Vodka: 90ml (3 oz), for a smooth, sweet foundation.
Crème de Menthe: 60ml (2 oz), green, to infuse the drink with its signature minty flavor and vibrant color.
White Chocolate Liqueur: 60ml (2 oz), adding a creamy richness that complements the mint.
Heavy Cream: 60ml (2 oz), to achieve that luxurious milkshake-like texture.
Ice: Enough to fill a shaker, for chilling the ingredients.
Whipped Cream (optional): for garnish, adding a light, sweet touch.
Green Sprinkles or Finely Crushed Mint Candy (optional): for garnish, enhancing the festive appearance and adding texture.
Fresh Mint Leaves (optional): for garnish, offering a pop of color and a hint of fresh mint aroma.
Cocktail shaker
Martini glasses (chill these in the freezer beforehand for an extra cool touch)
Measuring jigger
Strainer (if your shaker doesn’t have one)

INSTRUCTIONS
Chill the Martini Glasses: Place the martini glasses in the freezer to chill while you prepare the cocktail. This step ensures the drink stays cold and refreshing upon serving.
Combine Ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add the vanilla vodka, crème de menthe, white chocolate liqueur, and heavy cream. Fill the shaker with ice, leaving enough room for the ingredients to move around.
Shake It Up: Secure the lid on the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. The goal is to chill the cocktail thoroughly while also creating a slightly frothy texture from the heavy cream.
Strain and Serve: Remove the martini glasses from the freezer. Strain the cocktail into the chilled glasses, ensuring a smooth pour without any ice chips.
Garnish: If desired, top each martini with a dollop of whipped cream. Sprinkle green sprinkles or finely crushed mint candy over the whipped cream for a festive touch. Add a sprig of fresh mint to the side of the glass as the final garnish.
Serving: Serve the Shamrock Shake Martinis immediately, inviting your guests to dive into a creamy, minty, and utterly indulgent experience.

Crème de Menthe Selection: Ensure you use green crème de menthe for that classic Shamrock Shake color. The white variety will taste the same but won’t achieve the desired vibrant hue.
Adjust Creaminess: You can adjust the amount of heavy cream to suit your texture preference. More cream will yield a richer drink, while less will make it slightly more potent.
Customize Your Garnish: The garnishes are flexible. Feel free to play with different toppings like chocolate shavings or a rim of crushed green candy for an extra decorative touch.
This Shamrock Shake Martini recipe offers a sophisticated twist on a seasonal favorite, perfect for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations or whenever you crave a minty, creamy cocktail treat.
